  1. Readers reflect on fond cake memories

    Cooking

We asked our readers to share any memorable cake stories they had. Here is a taste of those sweet memories. Michelle Stark, Times food editor

Claudia Gunzelmann of Tampa made this cake for her husband’s 50th birthday.
  2. From the food editor: A chat with Molly Yeh, and an attempt at her Funfetti Cake

  3. Let's celebrate cake, the treat that often brings us together, with these recipes, decorating tips and more

    Cooking

I don't need to tell you how to make a cake using a box of Duncan Hines mix. If what you're going for is ease and speed, have at it. This week is dedicated to the idea of crafting cakes from scratch — how other bakers, from novices to blogger to pros, do it, and how you can, too.

  4. For a fast, easy, healthful dinner, try Poached Cod With Raw Papaya Relish

    Health

Balancing healthy eating with a crazy weeknight schedule is tricky for everyone. We all have competing priorities that chip away at our days: Kids, careers, school, home and family obligations all take time and energy. And next thing we know, it's 6 p.m. and we haven't given any thought to dinner. What we do next is …

You don’t have to rely on fresh fish for Poached Cod With Papaya Relish. Frozen fillets will work.
  5. For maximum crunch (and convenience), pull out your sheet pan

    Cooking

Cooking an entire meal on one rimmed baking pan — the so-called sheet pan supper — has become its own category of cooking, the oven analogue of the one-pot meal.

Spicy Roasted Broccoli Pasta brings both crunch and convenience to the table.
  6. Recipe for easy broiled fish with lemon curry butter

    Cooking

Here's a plan of action that works for dinner any night of the week: Melt some butter; add in some minced garlic, herbs, spices and a squirt of lemon; then pour it over whatever you have your heart set on eating. With almost no effort, you'll have a sauce that makes anything taste better.

Drizzle lemon curry butter, a blend of butter, garlic, lemon and the herbs and spices of your choosing, on fish fillets before running them under the broiler.
  7. Five ideas for puff pastry, from savory to sweet

    Cooking

With a fold, wrap or a twist, puff pastry can be part of a savory appetizer or a sweet dessert — and sometimes both. My favorite? Puff pastry, jam and a wheel of Brie. Packages of puff pastry sheets should be a freezer staple. These five easy recipes all use the standard frozen 17.3-ounce package from …

  9. The Citrus Place, one of the last holdouts in independent Florida citrus, is serving up fresh juice in Terra Ceia

    Cooking

    TERRA CEIA

Barry Broder's customers start asking for "the good orange juice" in early fall. For 17 years, he has been stopping at the Citrus Place on his way to work from Bradenton to stock up.

Orange peels are discarded after juicing at the Citrus Place in Terra Ceia, just south of the Sunshine Skyway bridge. Oranges are squeezed by a machine that chills and stirs the juice until it is bottled.
  10. For St. Patrick's Day, a lamb chop recipe with a savory mint sauce

    Cooking

St. Patrick's Day, a.k.a. the Feast of St. Patrick, is devoted not only to "the wearing o' the green," but the eating of the green. Both customs nod to the color of the shamrock, one of the great totems of Ireland, of which Patrick is the patron saint.

Seared Lamb Chops With Mint Herb Sauce will hit the spot. The sauce is bright green, deeply flavorful and refreshing, a tangy complement to crispy lamb chops.

New #CookClub recipe: White Chicken Chili

This is a hearty and warming stew for this time of year.
